Winter test flight

The N.H.S. Valkyrie on a test flight under winterly weather conditions, between 1934/35. The fifth engine nacelle was added to the vessel's rear to improve both, top speed and manoeuvrability. The schedule for both ships was cramped, as "Elekktra" had been announced to start regular service to Yurop in spring. So the latter was being equipped with all the comfort a passenger airliner needed, whereas "Valkyrie" was rushed through a hard testing parcours to find and remove possible glitches before taking up intercontinental service.

I estimated the overall length by using a simple human reference figure as about 227m (744ft), height of the upper fin above ground: 55m (180ft), maximum width of the fuselage: 52m (172ft).
